‘Ding-dong the witch is dead, the wicked witch is deaaaad.’ Okay perhaps not quite Dorothy and somewhere over the rainbow, but this look reminds me of the wicked witch of the west. I am feeling this “army green” vintage pencil skirt with every sip of witchy brew I take (too many puns already – okay enough.) There is just something about a purple and green combination that reminds me of the spookiest time of the year and if you are ever without a Halloween outfit – this is a brilliant basic to start from. I added a “witch on a broom” pin to this outfit, which comes c/o “Pin Club” – you can read about them here. For a small monthly subscription, you can receive a brand new pin in the post every single month. Octobers pin is this wicked witch of the west flying through the midnight sky on her wooden broomstick. If you want to be ghostly but gorgeous – its little details like this sweet pin that makes all the difference.
Ideal for the office, this polo neck and pencil skirt combination is an absolute winner for class and comfort. Both pieces are vintage and available from my own store – Monica Valentine Vintage. Wear with a blazer over the top and turn up the corporate or wear with a flat pair of pumps if its casual Friday. This pair of mod boots has literally got to be THE sparkliest of shoes I have ever laid my eyes on. Quite frankly, I want to be buried in them when I die as I feel they completely sum up my personality 100% – I love them whole heartedly. These are a “special buy” from Olive Aubrey (full feature coming very soon) and once they are gone, they are gone and trust me it won’t be long. Super comfy and perfect for a full day on your feet or in the office, I love the PAZAZ they add to simple staples such as the pencil/polo combo.
My husband took these photos and when I looked at them afterwards, I realised that he had aptly shot them with a “beware of the dog” sign in the background – he is a cheeky so and so! But I guess with Halloween quickly approaching, I guess I can let that slide – this time.
Wearing vintage for me is about wearing confidence. I believe you can wear vintage in the office, to pick your kids up from the playground, to go for a pint of milk or dinner and a dance with your sweetheart. Knowing what suits you and buying vintage that fits your measurements are really the only two things that you need to help you look marvelous wearing vintage anywhere. Modern fashion is heavily influenced and inspired by vintage silhouettes and tailoring. Everywhere you look, you will find a piece of clothing that was once a vintage style so don’t get too caught up in thinking that vintage is “old fashioned” and only reserved for fancy dress or those people who like to be “quirky.”
You can unquestionably wear something that was once enjoyed by some one else some time ago and be absolutely breathtaking.
This post features vintage from my own store and has been styled for promotional purposes. Please visit: www.monicavalentinevintage.com for more.
