Hello peaches! Today’s post brings some nautical goodness – from the countryside c/o Voodoo Vixen. Having lived in a variety of different cities and towns, I now reside a five minute walk from the great beautiful countryside! Now don’t get me wrong, I probably will always be a city girl at heart but now like to reserve the city for work and the countryside for living in. The rush of the city creates a buzz that none compares to and when I lived in London I loved the “all systems go” approach. Performing with the girls as well as a solo artist means that I have many a chance to see a lot of different parts of the world but there really is no place like home. There is nothing that compares to the natural beauty of the trees, woods and country lanes. I really should perhaps live near the sea due to my obscene fascination with anything remotely nautical but the nearest sea to where I live is………far. (Geography isn’t my strong point.)
Voodoo Vixen have so many beautiful pieces on their site, and are completely affordable for your every day wardrobe – use discount code “monica20” for even more loveliness! I am particularly fond of their candy coloured capris for summer, so easy to dress up or down.
I have a certain enchantment for looking like a lady and putting on a bit of glam each day which I think stems from playing dress up as a little girl. If you asked me to describe my own sense of style back then, my answer would have been ” I am a different character every day, if I feel like a unicorn today – I shall wear sparkle.” Today is no different.
I may need to work on my “catwalk” (click video above) but I wanted to show you just how comfy this pencil skirt really is. Made from mostly cotton with a little bit of stretch, it wears well and stays in place. One really sweet detail about this skirt is the deep side pockets that have a lovely little lace edging to them. The white buttons and hem detail complete the stunning nautical theme to this skirt. Although I do love dressing up and believe that you should always feel your own version of fabulous, I also need what I wear to work for me. I have busy days either filled with travelling to and from, rehearsing and meeting lots of people. I am also a mamma to my three month old daughter so my clothes need to be baby friendly and work friendly. Whatever you wear has to fit in with your life but that doesn’t mean that (if you want to) you can’t feel and look amazing.
I paired this skirt with a candy pink cardigan that I bought from a second hand shop in Camden and my navy t bar pumps I bought on eBay. I am on a strict no cake diet at the moment so the only sweet treat I am having on my cardi is this cheeky bakewell tart brooch from RockCakes. Pre-pregnancy I had a sadistic passion for CrossFit, HIT and weight lifting, and now that my little one is just over three months – I am making my return to fitness and healthy eating so, alas, no more cake. RockCakes make super cute jewellery, often hand painted and include wooden and enamel pins amongst many other styles in their vast collection. You can visit their Etsy store here, they gifted me several pieces and I can’t wait to show you them all over the next coming month.
I took my retro lovin’ Sun Jellies plastic tote out with me which I adore. This one is Atomic Tote in the style “Jane”” and it just goes with so many outfits that I have. I love the retro vibe, in fact their entire range oozes the same 60s style and no summer wardrobe is complete without either a pair of shoes or bag from them!
